Decentralized Mixed Reality has been our dream from the very first day. With the current progress of technology in fields like Blockchain, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics, we have a beautifully drawn futuristic society of a Decentralized Mixed Reality to reach. In this article, let’s shed light upon the richest scenario of Mixed Reality.

To experience Mixed Reality properly, XR glasses are very important. These provide the hardware that can run both, AR and VR.

Now let’s draw a scenario:

Alice lives at 10401 Bennett Road, Fredonia, NY 14063. She is a teacher at Fredonia Central School, and she has just taken a boring algebra class as a substitute tutor. Now Alice comes out of the classroom and puts her Mixed Reality glass on. Suddenly the long and empty corridor magically changes into an interstellar circus. Alice can see the pitch-black space with an asteroid belt, and twinkling stars over her — while the ground remains the same. There are different 3D tents and cages, where different 3D aliens are kept. Some are dancing inside, and some are trying to climb on the cage bars. Suddenly, she finds a 3D human is approaching her and saying, “hey, I am Bob. I run a Hogwarts castle inside my tent in this interstellar circus! Would you like to experience it?”

This sounds interesting to Alice, and so, she pays Bob the entry fee by doing a transaction, and Bob opens the tent for her. The tent turns into the dungeons of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the 3D persona of fellow wizards and witches like Professor Dumbledor, Professor Snape, Lord Voldemort, and Professor Mcgonagle are roaming around. Alice starts talking to them and finds out they are other fellow humans who are roleplaying those characters. Suddenly, the sorting hat appears out of nowhere, telling Alice which Hogwarts house would suit her best. She has a long conversation with the hat before putting off her Mixed Reality glasses — and she is still in the corridor of Fredonia Central High School.

Now, this is a glance at a true Mixed Reality, where any physical place can turn into a virtual place, or virtual objects can be augmented on real physical locations.

Now, a question arises: why is decentralization needed?

The above scenario was designed in such a way that everyone in the interstellar circus — Bob, the Hogwarts professors, Voldemort, the sorting hat, the dancing aliens, and even the space above and the tents — everything was being controlled by different humans, and they were charging for it. They were creating their own economy within this Decentralized Mixed Reality.

If this was done by a centralized authority instead, users would always get to see what the authority wanted to show them — and none of the users would get the absolute freedom to create what they want. Neither would the people entering these realities get to see what they want — they might have to watch an advertisement before entering the interstellar circus! They might reject a user’s entry (or a user’s 3D creations inside a reality) for their own reasons. But here, no centralized authority can have any say — all control stays with the people who engaged with the network. The whole control lies with the people, and they can use token economics to monetize their work or creations.
